Our team has been busy working on further improvements in Connecting Steps over the last month based on feedback from users – all aimed at enhancing your experience of the software.
These new Connecting Steps features will help make assessment quicker and easier for your school.
Here’s a quick summary of the key changes and the benefits they bring.
WHAT’S NEW?
Save time with bulk printing of reports
Create and receive reports for all students in a Group in one go, delivered conveniently by download or email. This is a massive time saver! Instead of selecting each student individually to print a report, you can now create reports for your whole class at once! Click the new Printer icon to select the report you want to create. Choose specific students or click ‘select all’ to include all students, and decide for each individual which report-view you would like. Reports are delivered as a zip file in your downloads folder, with larger files emailed directly. This Beta feature is still being refined – please share your feedback at support@bsquared.co.uk.
Ensure accurate student reporting
Set custom start dates for reports based on a student’s baseline, ensuring accurate data for those baselined after the school year began. The default start date for reports is the first day of the school year. If student baselines were added after this date, data for these students would not be included in reports. This is because students must have a baseline in place on the report start date for their data to be included. We’ve added a new section under the Date Range on the Reports screen to suggest start dates based on existing baselines. Hover to see if ‘most’ or ‘all’ baselines are included, then click to select a date. This feature simplifies report creation and ensures all student data is included, accurately reflecting progress.
Rapid report switching
The system now remembers your report dates during a session, making it easy to switch between reports for the same period. When you move from one report to another for a student (or group of students), we keep as much as possible of the information you have already inputted, to make reporting quicker and easier for you . Some reports have different options, that will need you to input additional information.
Current level name displayed for clarity
The level dropdown now shows a student’s current level name. So, you can quickly and easily determine if this is still accurate or update to reflect their progress. Previously this field displayed ‘Current Level’, now the level itself also appears in brackets afterwards e.g. Current Level (E.Step3) – so you immediately know the level the student is working at.
Easily delete achievements
Quickly revert to previous levels using the new delete mode on the Individual Assessment screen, giving greater control and flexibility over achievement tracking. The ‘Add Achievement’ button (top right), now has an option to ‘Delete Achievement’. Click to activate delete mode, then using the red D, click to delete the achievements that you wish to remove. This makes it much quicker and easier to delete any achievements added in error.
Speed up baselining
When adding baselines, you can now choose from a student’s list of existing baseline dates, making it quick and easy to add consistent baselines. On the Individual Level Summary screen, click the ‘Add Baseline’ button (top right) to see 3 options – current date, framework start date, custom date. Underneath these, there is now a list of suggested baseline dates. These are dates that have already been used in baselines for that student on that framework. You can quickly choose one of these to add your baseline, knowing it will be consistent with existing baseline dates for that student.

You can now contact our Support Team directly from Connecting Steps. Simply hover over the question mark in the menu on the left and select “Contact Support”. Then choose from 3 options: email, phone or book a 15 minute support session.
