Rowan Tree Primary School is using B Squared’s Connecting Steps assessment software with a variety of our different assessment frameworks to meet the needs of its diverse range of learners. Whilst Evisense, our evidence of learning platform, helps demonstrate the learning that takes place.

In addition, the school uses our autism profiling tool Autism Progress to profile each student’s autism and how it impacts them and their learning. Support strategies are then provided to help each individual’s development.

Tracking whole school progress for a wide range of learners

Rowan Tree Primary School is a specialist provision school in the North West of England with 116 pupils on roll, the majority with autism. There is a very diverse range of learners, which is why the school takes a Total Communication approach, focused on finding and using the right combination of communication methods and approaches for each child. Working in this way supports children to successfully make their needs and wishes known in whatever way they can. Adults respond to each child’s communications, encouraging them to continue to extend and develop their communication skills.

Monitoring progress for ALL our pupils in one system

“B Squared’s Connecting Steps assessment software enables us to track the progress of all our pupils in one system, even though we are using a range of different assessment frameworks. These include Early Steps for children on the EYFS curriculum and Engagement Steps for those who are not yet engaged in subject specific learning. Progression Steps is used for pupils working from pre-key stage standards up towards lower GCSE grades.”

Using evidence to demonstrate children’s learning

“We use Evisense to store and manage all of our evidence of learning, which means we are no longer recording pupils’ achievements across a number of different workbooks. We can now show children’s learning in a range of subjects all in one place! Evisense enables our teachers to track progress across all areas of learning; identify gaps; and show the learning that has taken place.”
