“B Squared’s Connecting Steps has contributed to an increase in successful EHCP applications, leading to additional support for students and a positive impact on outcomes. Data collation is much faster, and the platform provides clear insights into gaps in learning. This enables timely and targeted interventions.”

Increasing successful EHCP applications
Icknield Primary School and Deaf Provision, located in Luton, is a vibrant three-form entry school with a diverse and inclusive community. There are 607 pupils on roll (387 EAL and 121 Pupil Premium). The school currently supports 35 pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Its dedicated Deaf Provision plays a central role in ensuring inclusive practice and specialist support across the school.
According to SENDco, Keely Nugent, “Connecting Steps enables us to track and monitor progress in a way that is both age appropriate and aligned with each student’s academic ability. It supports improved outcomes by focusing on individual needs and has contributed to an increase in successful EHC plan applications. The software is user-friendly, with straightforward data entry, monitoring, and analysis tools.”
More accurate and cost effective assessment data
“Connecting Steps has improved our ability to track, measure, and evidence pupil progress in a clear and meaningful way. Working with B Squared has proven cost-effective for our setting due to the recent shift in pricing structure – from per-child to per-user- which suits our needs well. With most teachers now having individual logins, we can gather more accurate, child-specific assessment data without relying on one central person to input everything.”
Greater clarity and confidence in teachers’ daily practice
“For the SENDco and Senior Leadership Team, streamlining the collection and analysis of data has reduced workload and made assessments more meaningful. It has also brought greater clarity and confidence to our teaching staff’s daily practice. By breaking progress down into smaller, manageable steps, it enables teachers to plan, assess, and adapt their teaching more effectively, building on prior knowledge and deepening pupils’ understanding.”
Personalised learning accelerates success
“Many of our pupils are now making accelerated progress, as their learning is precisely aligned to their individual needs. The software also supports more accurate and informative tracking, making it easier for teachers to set realistic, measurable goals and plan effective next steps.”
Regular assessment data drops help celebrate achievements
“Up-to-date, half-termly assessment data is now easily accessible, supporting more informed decision making and monitoring across the school. I love being able to focus intervention on specific areas that directly target individual children, based on our assessment data within Connecting Steps. This means we can celebrate children’s achievements more frequently, boosting their motivation and self esteem – which is especially rewarding!”
