What is Good Progress for pupils with SEND? Webinar

Progress. Everyone talks about it, but when it comes to pupils with SEND, the usual rules don’t work. So what is good progress? What does good progress actually look like? Spoiler: it’s not just about numbers on a spreadsheet!

Ofsted expect schools to be able to show progress from each pupil’s individual starting point – but that doesn’t mean endless graphs or complicated systems. In this webinar, we share ways to look at progress more holistically, using the right data (without drowning in it), recognising engagement, and telling the story of each pupil. The session challenges the idea that there’s a single formula or benchmark. Instead, it’s about understanding what progress looks like for your pupils, in your context, and being able to tell that story clearly to leaders, parents and inspectors.

Our Managing Director, Dale Pickles explores what good progress looks like for children and young people with SEND, in both mainstream and special school settings. He covers:

  • What Ofsted actually says about progress (and the myths we can stop worrying about).
  • Why data should be a conversation starter, not the final word.
  • How to balance academic outcomes with wider achievements – EHCP outcomes, Preparing for Adulthood and more.
  • How to recognise and evidence progress that doesn’t follow a straight line.
  • Practical ways to feel confident in your decisions and explain them to others.

Whether you’re a SENCO, teacher, leader or governor, this webinar will give you clarity, reassurance and practical strategies for showing that the progress your pupils are making really is good!
