Winterbourne Nursery & Infants School is using B Squared’s Connecting Steps assessment software with a variety of our assessment frameworks to meet the diverse needs of its learners.

Early Steps for pupils on the Early Years Foundation Stage (2021) from birth to the Early Learning Goals and beyond.

Phonics for SEN, created by Ann Sullivan, enables pupils with a range of SEN to find reading and spelling success.

Primary Curriculum for pupils working within their year group at Age Related Expectations.

Improving learning outcomes across the entire school

Winterbourne Nursery and Infants School is a four form entry school with a diverse group of students, including children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). It’s Enhanced Learning Provision (ELP) meets the needs of children with a range of special needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD).

According to ELP Lead Practitioner, Charlene Williams, “We started using B Squared’s Connecting Steps in 2021 to improve how we assess and support the learners in our Enhanced Learning Provision. It is now helping us to create a data-driven, individualised, and efficient approach to learning and improve outcomes across the entire school.”

Personalised learning plans help staff set achievable goals

“Before working with B Squared, our ELP relied on manual assessment methods that were not only time-consuming but often lacked the detail needed to tailor individual learning plans. We struggled to access a clear overview of our children’s progress, which hindered the development of personalised learning strategies. By providing a centralised system, Connecting Steps allows all staff to access a child’s progress data at any time, thereby fostering a collaborative approach. We can now develop personalised learning plans which help teachers to set achievable goals for each pupil.”
